7204-Implausible Message Received From ECM: Testing

- CHECK FOR DTC 7204-IMPLAUSIBLE MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM ECM NOTE: This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, record and erase DTCs.
- Cycle the ignition switch from off to on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display: 7204-IMPLAUSIBLE MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM ECM?
Yes
- Go to step 2
No
- Perform the ABS-INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Antilock Brake (ABS) - Standard Procedure .
- CHECK IF BCM CAN BUS DTCS ARE PRESENT
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Are there any BCM CAN BUS DTCs present?
Yes
- Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Body Control (BCM) - Diagnosis and Testing and perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.
No
- Go to step 3
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
- CHECK IF ENGINE DTCS ARE PRESENT
- With the scan tool, read ECM DTCs.
Are there any Engine DTCs present?
Yes
- Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Engine Control (ECM) - Diagnosis and Testing and perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.
- Perform the ECM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Engine Control (ECM) - Standard Procedure .
No
- Using the schematics as a guide, check the Anti-Lock Brake Module pins, terminals, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the Anti-Lock Brake Module in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Antilock Brake (ABS) - Standard Procedure .
- With the scan tool, read ECM DTCs.
