Diagnostic Test

  1. ERASE AND ATTEMPT TO RESET DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, record and erase BCM DTCs.
    3. Start the engine.
    4. Operate the heated windshield switch several time.
    5. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display 9079-WINDSHIELD HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH?

      Yes 

      • Go to step  2

      No 

  2. INSTALL KNOWN GOOD RELAY 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Substitute the original Heated Windshield Relay with a known good relay.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, erase BCM DTCs.
    5. Start the engine.
    6. Operate the Heated Windshield switch several times.
    7. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display 9079-WINDSHIELD HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH?

      Yes 

      • Go to step  3

      No 

  3. OPEN GROUND CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Heated Windshield Relay.
    3. Measure the resistance of the Ground circuit at the Heated Windshield Relay connector.

      Is the resistance above 3.0 ohms?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go to step  4
  4. HEATED WINDSHIELD RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Disconnect the Body Control Module C9 connector.
    2. Turn the ignition On.
    3. Measure the Voltage of the Heated Windshield Relay Control circuit at the relay connector to ground.

      Is the Voltage above 1.0 Volt?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go to step  5
  5. HEATED WINDSHIELD RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Measure the resistance of the Heated Windshield Relay Control circuit between the BCM connector and the relay connector.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

      Yes 

      No
