Fuel Injector: Removal: Removal

1 - Purge Line
2 - Throttle Position Sensor
3 - Idle Air Control Motor
  1. Release fuel pressure, refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE  n.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove air cleaner housing and inlet hose.
  4. Remove engine cover.
  5. Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor. See Figure.
  6. Disconnect the Idle Air Control.
  7. Disconnect the purge line.
  8. Disconnect the throttle and speed control cables (if equipped).

  9. Unlock and disconnect the MAP sensor. See Figure.
  10. Disconnect the vacuum lines.
  11. Remove the EGR tube, refer to (Refer to EMISSIONS CONTROL/EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION/TUBE - REMOVAL) .

  12. Remove the upper intake manifold. See Figure, (Refer to ENGINE/MANIFOLDS/INTAKE MANIFOLD - REMOVAL) - 3.5L, (Refer to ENGINE/MANIFOLDS/INTAKE MANIFOLD/UPPER - REMOVAL) - 3.8L .

  15. If the injector connectors are not tagged with their cylinder number, tag them to identify the correct cylinder. See Figure.

  16. Remove the 4 mounting bolts from the fuel rail. See Figure.

  17. Disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel rail. See Figure.

  18. Lift fuel rail straight up off of cylinder head. See Figure.

  19. Remove retaining clips from fuel injectors at fuel rail. See Figure.

  20. Remove fuel injector from fuel rail. See Figure.
