Fuel Injector: Removal: Removal

- Release fuel pressure, refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE n.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove air cleaner housing and inlet hose.
- Remove engine cover.
- Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor. See Figure.
- Disconnect the Idle Air Control.
- Disconnect the purge line.
- Disconnect the throttle and speed control cables (if equipped).
1 - MAP Sensor 2 - Vacuum Lines - Unlock and disconnect the MAP sensor. See Figure.
- Disconnect the vacuum lines.
- Remove the EGR tube, refer to (Refer to EMISSIONS CONTROL/EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION/TUBE - REMOVAL) .
- Remove the upper intake manifold. See Figure, (Refer to ENGINE/MANIFOLDS/INTAKE MANIFOLD - REMOVAL) - 3.5L, (Refer to ENGINE/MANIFOLDS/INTAKE MANIFOLD/UPPER - REMOVAL) - 3.8L .
- Fuel Rail, wiring harness and injectors. See Figure.
- Injector and electrical connector. See Figure.
- If the injector connectors are not tagged with their cylinder number, tag them to identify the correct cylinder. See Figure.
- Remove the 4 mounting bolts from the fuel rail. See Figure.
- Disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel rail. See Figure.
- Lift fuel rail straight up off of cylinder head. See Figure.
- Remove retaining clips from fuel injectors at fuel rail. See Figure.
- Remove fuel injector from fuel rail. See Figure.
