Standard Procedure - TPM Module Programming

If the TPM module has been replaced, the TPM Module must be reprogrammed in order to identify the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters. Proper identification of each of the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters is necessary in order to identify which wheel is transmitting a signal to the TPM module.

NOTE: The TPM Module Programming procedure must use the DRB III® in conjunction with the Miller Tool 8821 Re-Learn Magnet.
NOTE: When reprogramming the TPM module, the magnet should be moved from wheel to wheel in a clockwise direction starting at the Left Front Wheel. There is a maximum time limit of 60 seconds for each tire. If the DRB III® cannot read the sensor within the 60 seconds, the DRB III® determines the time-out has been reached, and the module reprogramming will be discontinued. If the module reprogramming is not completed, the TPM module will then set the "Training Failed" DTC.
  1. Connect a DRB III® scan tool to the vehicle's diagnostic connector beneath the Instrument Panel near the steering column.
  2. Access the Chassis System using the DRB III®.
  3. Once in the Chassis System, select "Miscellaneous Functions".
  4. The following System Test menu selections will appear:
    1. Train All Mode
    2. Stop Train Mode
  5. Select "Train All Mode" from the System Test menu selection.
  6. Using the DRB III®, select "Yes" to continue.
  7. Place the Special Tool 8821 Re-Learn Magnet, over the valve stem of the Left Front Wheel.
  8. Each Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter will automatically sense the presence of the magnet and begin transmitting. When the pressure sensor/transmitter on each wheel has been programmed, the DRB III® will automatically BEEP and direct you to the next wheel to be programmed. Remove the magnet and move to each of the remaining wheels as directed by the DRB III®.
  9. Remove the magnet from the Left Rear Wheel.
  10. Once "Training Completed" is displayed, exit the program function screen and use the following to verify the TPM functionality:
    1. Verify the TPM module programming is complete by viewing the Input/Output Display  selection of the DRB III® and confirming the Tire Pressure Sensors are trained.
    2. Verify the TPM module programming is complete by viewing the Sensor Display  selection of the DRB III® and confirm the Tire Pressure Sensor pressure readings are accurate.
