Sentry Key Remote Entry Module: Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
    WARNING: Wait two minutes for the airbag system reserve capacitor to discharge before beginning any airbag system or component service. Failure to do so may result in accidental airbag deployment, personal injury or death.
  2. Remove the instrument cluster bezel (Refer to BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/CLUSTER BEZEL - REMOVAL) .
  3. Remove the steering column opening cover (Refer to BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/STEERING COLUMN OPENING COVER - REMOVAL) .
  4. Reach up behind the left side of the center stack and disconnect the ignition switch (6) and SKREEM (5) electrical connectors.

  5. From underneath the ignition switch/lock assembly, loosen the lower retaining screw (2).
  6. Remove the two mounting nuts (1) from the front of the instrument panel.
  7. Push the ignition switch/lock assembly (3) inward toward the bulkhead.

  8. Remove the SKREEM mounting screw (1) on the ignition lock assembly and separate the SKREEM from the ignition lock assembly.
NOTE: After a SKREEM/WCM is replaced, the ignition/transponder keys need to be programmed to the new SKREEM/WCM. Follow the directions on the diagnostic scan tool. The transponder key for the SKREES/SKIM and the RKE will both be programmed during this operation. There is no need to program the fob of the key for RKE functionality once the transponder key is programmed to the new SKREEM/WCM.
NOTE: When a PCM and the SKREEM/WCM are replaced at the same time, perform the following steps in order:
  1. Program the new PCM.
  2. Program the new SKREEM/WCM.
  3. Program all ignition/transponder keys to the new SKREEM/WCM.
