Fuel Rail: Removal: 3.8L

  1. Release fuel pressure, refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE  .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove air cleaner housing and inlet hose.
  4. Remove engine cover.
  5. Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor. See Fig 1.

    3 - Idle Air Control Motor
  6. Disconnect the Idle Air Control.
  7. Disconnect the purge line.
  8. Disconnect the throttle and speed control cables (if equipped).
  9. Unlock and disconnect the MAP sensor. See Fig 2.

  10. Disconnect the vacuum lines.
  11. Remove the EGR tube, refer to (Refer to EMISSIONS CONTROL/EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION/TUBE - REMOVAL) .
  12. Remove the upper intake manifold. See Fig 3, and INTAKE MANIFOLD - UPPER .

  13. Fuel Rail, wiring harness and injectors. See Fig 4.

  14. Injector and electrical connector. See Fig 5.

  15. If the injector connectors are not tagged with their cylinder number, tag them to identify the correct cylinder. See Fig 6.

  16. Remove the 4 mounting bolts from the fuel rail. See Fig 7.

  17. Disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel rail. See Fig 8.

  18. Lift fuel rail straight up off of cylinder head. See Fig 9.

  19. Remove retaining clips from fuel injectors at fuel rail. See Fig 10.

  20. Remove fuel injector from fuel rail. See Fig 11.
