Installation - Gasoline Engine
When replacing battery, the thermal guard MUST be transferred to the new battery (if equipped).
- Install battery in vehicle making sure that the thermal guard (if equipped) is present and battery is properly positioned on battery tray.
- Install battery hold down clamp, making sure that it is properly positioned on battery. Torque clamp to 110 in. lbs. +/- 20 in. lbs.
1 - HOLD DOWN ROD 2 - HOLD DOWN RETAINER 3 - NON CORROSIVE SPACERS FOR SERVICE BATTERY 4 - BOLT CAUTION: Vehicles equipped with the turbocharged engine use a unique battery hold down. If the replacement battery is not identical, in size to the original, it may be necessary to use non-corrosive spacers on top of the hold down retainer to properly secure the battery in the battery tray. See Fig 1. - Install battery cables on battery posts. Install battery positive cable first.
- Torque clamp nuts to 110 in. lbs. +/- 20 in. lbs.
- Install air cleaner housing (Refer to ENGINE/AIR INTAKE SYSTEM/AIR CLEANER HOUSING - REMOVAL) for 1.6L engine or (Refer to ENGINE/AIR INTAKE SYSTEM/AIR CLEANER HOUSING - REMOVAL) for 2.4L engine .
- Close hood.
- Verify operation of vehicle and systems.
