Ignition Switch - ST (Start) System
NOTE:
This procedure applies to manual transaxle models only.
NOTE:
For additional wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Remove starter relay located in underhood fuse/relay box. See Figure . Check for poor connections at starter relay connector A-13X. See Fig 1 . Repair as necessary. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Test starter relay. See STARTER RELAY . Replace as necessary. If starter relay is okay, go to next step.
- With starter relay removed, using DVOM, measure voltage between ground, and starter relay connector A-13X terminals No. 3 and No. 5. Turn ignition switch to START position. Battery voltage should exist at both terminals with ignition switch in START position. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair open in harness wire between ignition switch connector terminal No. 5 and starter relay.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check for poor connections or faulty terminals at ECM connector C-118. ECM is located on passenger's side of vehicle. See Figure . Repair faulty connections as necessary. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Install starter relay into underhood fuse/relay box. Disconnect ECM connector C-118. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and ECM connector C-118. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to START position. Battery voltage should be indicated with ignition switch in START position. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair open in harness wire between ECM and starter relay.
- Check clutch interlock switch connector C-02 for poor connections or faulty terminals. Clutch interlock switch is located above clutch pedal. Repair faulty connections as necessary. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Test clutch interlock switch. See CLUTCH INTERLOCK SWITCH . Replace as necessary. If clutch interlock switch is okay, go to next step.
- Ensure clutch interlock switch is disconnected. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and connector C-02. Turn ignition switch to START position. Battery voltage should be indicated with ignition switch in START position. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair open in harness wire between clutch interlock switch and starter relay.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and clutch interlock switch connector terminal No. 1. If resistance is 2 ohms or less, replace ECM. If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, repair open in harness wire between clutch interlock switch and ground. Circuit includes intermediate connector C-06, located behind instrument panel. See Figure .
