Using Lab Scope
NOTE:
Manufacturer recommends connecting Test Connector (MB991709) to IAC motor during testing procedure.
- IAC motor is located directly below throttle opening.
- Connect lab scope pick-up at IAC motor connector or ECM/PCM connector. If connecting lab scope pick-up at IAC motor connector, connect pick-up lead to IAC motor connector terminals No. 1, 3, 4 and 6 by backprobing. See Figure .
- If connecting lab scope pick-up at ECM (M/T), connect pick-up lead to ECM terminals No. 14, 15, 28 and 29 by backprobing. See Figure or Figure .
- Start engine and bring to operating temperature. Let engine idle and turn A/C switch on. Compare waveform to normal pattern. See Fig 1 . Waveform should be stable with engine idling. If point "A" is extremely small or does not appear, IAC motor is defective. If point "B" is extremely small or does not appear, IAC motor coil is shorted. In both cases, IAC motor will need to be replaced. See IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR under MOTORS, RELAYS & SOLENOIDS in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - SEBRING COUPE & STRATUS COUPE article. If waveform is extremely erratic, problems in circuits between IAC motor and ECM/PCM exist.
