Stalls When Accelerating

NOTE: For additional wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .

Most likely causes are weak spark or air/fuel mixture problem on acceleration.

  1. Connect scan tool to data link connector, located under instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Turn ignition off. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - SEBRING COUPE & STRATUS COUPE - 3.0L article for appropriate test.
  2. Using scan tool, perform actuator test No. 10: EGR SOLENOID. See ACTUATOR TESTS  under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS. If EGR solenoid is not okay, repair or replace as necessary. Recheck idle. If EGR solenoid is okay, check ignition coil, cap, rotor, spark plugs and spark plug cables. Check intake manifold gaskets, air inlet hose, vacuum lines, and PCV valve. Repair as necessary. Recheck idle.
