Idle Control Systems: Knock

Most likely causes are knock sensor problem or incorrect heat range spark plug.

  1. Connect scan tool to data link connector, located under instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Turn ignition off. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to appropriate test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - SEBRING COUPE & STRATUS COUPE - 3.0L article.
  2. Start engine. Check timing. Disconnect knock sensor. Recheck timing. Timing should retard with knock sensor disconnected. If timing did not retard, see DTC P0325: KNOCK SENSOR CIRCUIT under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - SEBRING COUPE & STRATUS COUPE - 3.0L article. If timing retarded, check spark plugs, fuel octane level, and for fuel contamination. Repair or replace as necessary. Recheck symptom.
