Low Oil Pressure Indicator Inoperative

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn the ignition off. Perform the instrument cluster self test. Press and hold the trip odometer reset button. Turn the ignition on. Observe the low oil pressure indicator during the self test. If the low oil pressure indicator illuminated, go to the next step. If the low oil pressure indicator did not illuminate, go to step  4.
  2. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII in SENSORS, read the oil pressure switch state. Disconnect the engine oil pressure switch harness connector. With the DRBIII in SENSORS, read the oil pressure switch state. If the engine oil pressure switch changed states, replace the engine oil pressure switch. If the engine oil pressure switch did not change states, go to the next step.
  3. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the engine oil pressure switch harness connector. Disconnect the PCM Cl harness connector. See Figure. Measure the resistance of the engine oil pressure switch sense circuit. If the resistance is below 5.0 ohms, the test is complete. If the resistance is above 5.0 ohms, repair the engine oil pressure switch sense circuit for an open.
  4. Turn the ignition off. Remove the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Remove the low oil pressure indicator LED. Using a DVOM, select DIODE MODE, and attach the leads across the LED. Ensure that the Red lead is on the (+) of the LED. If the LED illuminated, replace the instrument cluster. If the LED did not illuminate, replace the low oil pressure indicator LED. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BULBS & LED under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
