Bus Bias Level Too High Or Too Low
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
Possible Causes:
- Scan Tool Bus Bias Too High/Low
- CCD Bus (+) Or Bus (-) Circuit Open
- CCD Bus (+)(-) Circuit Shorted To Ground
- Instrument Cluster Ground Circuit Open
- Instrument Cluster Bus Bias Level Too High/Low
Testing
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and DLC terminals No. 3 (Violet/Brown wire) and No. 11 (White/Black wire). See Figure . If voltage is 1.8-2.8 volts on both circuits, repair or replace scan tool cable as necessary. If voltage is not 1.8-2.8 volts on both circuits, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove Electro-Mechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC). See ELECTRO-MECHANICAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using a DVOM, measure resistance of Violet/Brown wire between DLC terminal No. 3 and EMIC connector C1 terminal No. 10. Measure resistance of White/Black wire between DLC terminal No. 11 and EMIC connector C1 terminal No. 9. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is more than 5 ohms on either circuit, repair open or high resistance in appropriate wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms on both circuits, go to next step.
- Ensure interior lights are off. Inspect, clean and repair EMIC connectors as necessary. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and EMIC connector C1 terminals No. 9 (White/Black wire) and No. 10 (Violet/Brown wire). If resistance is less than 1000 ohms on either circuit, repair short to ground in appropriate wire. If resistance is more than 1000 ohms on both circuits, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and EMIC connector C1 terminal No. 4 (Black/Dark Green wire). Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and EMIC connector C2 terminal No. 7 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms on both circuits, replace EMIC. If resistance is more than 5 ohms on either circuit, repair open or high resistance in appropriate wire.
