Bus (+) & Bus (-) Shorted Together
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
Possible Causes:
- Bus System Module/Component Internally Shorted
- Bus (+) And Bus (-) Circuits Shorted
- DRB/DRB Cable Bus (+) And Bus (-) Shorted Together
Testing
- Using scan tool, monitor display for BUS OPERATIONAL message as each of the following modules are disconnected in order and one at a time. Ensure ignition is off for at least 2 minutes before disconnecting or connecting these modules.
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) Module
- Electro-Mechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC)
- Central Timer Module (If Equipped)
- Air Bag Control Module (ACM)
If scan tool displays a different bus message after disconnecting any module(s), replace module. If scan tool does not display a different bus message after disconnecting all modules, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Wait 2 minutes. Disconnect PCM connectors. Disconnect CAB module connector. Disconnect EMIC connectors. Disconnect CTM connectors (if equipped). Disconnect ACM connectors. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between DLC terminals No. 3 (Violet/Brown wire) and No. 11 (White/Black wire). See Figure . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace scan tool cable or scan tool as necessary. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between CCD bus circuits.
