No Response From CTM

NOTE: This testing only applies to models with vehicle theft security system.
NOTE: Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.

Possible Causes:

  1. Fuse Block Fuse No. 15
  2. Open Fused B (+) Open To CTM
  3. CTM Ground Open
  4. CCD Bus (+) Open To CTM
  5. CCD Bus (-) Open To CTM
  6. Central Timer Module

Testing

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove and inspect fuse No. 15 (20-amp) in fuse block. Fuses are identified on fuse block cover. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in power distribution circuit as necessary. See POWER DISTRIBUTION in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  2. Install Fuse No. 15. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) connector C1. Measure voltage between ground and CTM connector C1 terminal No. 14 (Red wire). See Figure . If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Red wire. If battery voltage is present, go to next step.
  3. Connect CTM connector C1. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, backprobe between ground and CTM connector C1 terminal No. 6 (Black/Tan wire). See Figure . Using a DVOM, backprobe between ground and CTM connector C2 terminal No. 3 (Black wire). See Figure . If voltage is more than .5 volt, repair open in Black/Tan wire or Black wire between CTM and ground. If voltage is .5 volt or less, go to next step.
  4. Using a jumper wire, backprobe between ground and CTM connector C2 terminal No. 16 (Violet/Brown wire). Using scan tool, perform CCD BUS TEST. If scan tool displays SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display SHORT TO GROUND, repair open in Violet/Brown wire.
  5. Remove jumper wire. Using a jumper wire, backprobe between ground and CTM connector C2 terminal No. 17 (White/Black wire). Perform CCD BUS TEST with scan tool. If scan tool does not display SHORT TO GROUND, repair open in White/Black wire. If scan tool displays BUS SHORTED TO GROUND, replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
