No Response From ACM
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Turn ignition off and wait 2 minutes before disconnecting Air Bag Control Module (ACM) connector, air bags are energized for up to 2 minutes after battery is disconnected and may deploy. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
CAUTION:
Shorting clips are built into bottom of ACM connector terminals No. 1-12. Shorting clips prevent accidental air bag deployment caused by static charges or radio frequency noise while handling air bag assembly when disconnected from ACM connector. DO NOT probe, bend or remove shorting clips.
NOTE:
Perform AIR BAG VERIFICATION
under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
Possible Causes:
- ACM Ground Circuit Open
- CCD Bus (+) Open
- CCD Bus (-) Open
- Air Bag Control Module
Testing
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait 2 minutes. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) connector. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and ACM connector terminal No. 16 (Black/Pink wire). See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Pink wire.
- Turn ignition on. Connect negative battery cable. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and ACM connector terminal No. 21 (Violet/Brown wire). If voltage is 1.8-2.8 volts, replace the ACM. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is not 1.8-2.8 volts, repair open in Violet/Brown wire.
NOTE:
Ensure fuse No. 5 and fuse No. 9 in the fuse block are not open before continuing.
