PRND Or Autostick Indicator Display Inaccurate Or Inoperative

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
CAUTION: Ensure that there is communication between the MIC, PCM, and the TCM before proceeding with this test.
WARNING: Diagnose and repair any DTCs before proceeding with this test.
NOTE: Ensure that the TCM passes the shift lever test with the DRBIII before proceeding with this test.
  1. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII, read DTCs. If the DRBIII displays any MIC, PCM, or TCM DTCs refer to the symptom identification for related DTCs. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If the DRBIII did not displays any MIC, PCM, or TCM DTCs go to the next step.
  2. Perform the instrument cluster self test. Turn the ignition off. Press and hold the trip reset button. Turn the ignition on. Observe the PRND/AutoStick VF display during the self test. If any part of the VF display failed to illuminate, replace the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. If the VF display failed to illuminate the condition is not present at this time. Monitor DRBIII parameters while wiggling the related wire harness. Refer to any technical service bulletins that may apply. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connector terminals.
