Oil Pump: Inspection
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Inspect components for damage. Using straightedge and feeler gauge, check flatness of pump cover. Replace cover if it is equal to or exceeds specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS table.
- Measure thickness of both rotors. Replace rotors if not within specification.
- Install outer rotor in timing belt cover. Measure clearance between outer rotor and timing belt cover. If clearance is equal to or exceeds specification but outer rotor O.D. is within specification, replace timing belt cover.
- Install inner rotor, and measure clearance between inner and outer rotors. Replace pump assembly if clearance is equal to or exceeds specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS table.
- Place straightedge across timing belt cover surface. Using feeler gauge, check rotor end clearance between rotors and straightedge. Replace pump assembly if clearance is equal to or exceeds .003" (.077 mm).
- Ensure pressure relief valve slides freely in bore. Check free length and pressure of pressure relief valve spring. Replace spring if it is not within specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS table.
