Key In Ignition & Driver's Door Open Chime Inoperative

Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. The driver's door ajar switch must be operational. Ensure key is in the ignition switch. With the scan tool, enter: BODY COMPUTER, Inputs Outputs and read the Key-In IGN SW. If the scan tool displays KEY-IN IGN SW: CLOSED, replace the BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGN SW: CLOSED, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the ignition switch harness connector. Turn all lights off. Using a DVOM, measure the resistance between ground and the ground circuit in the ignition switch harness connector. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, go to next step. If the resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair the ground circuit for an open.
  3. Connect the ignition switch connector if disconnected. Turn the ignition on. With the ignition switch connector connected, backprobe key-in ignition switch sense circuit to ground at the ignition switch connector. With the scan tool, enter BODY COMPUTER Inputs/Outputs and observe the Key-In IGN SW status. If the scan tool displays KEY-IN IGN SW: CLOSED, replace the ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If not, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the ignition switch harness connector. Disconnect the BCM C2 harness connector. Using a DVOM, measure the resistance of the key-in ignition switch sense circuit between the ignition switch connector and the BCM C2 connector. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, go to next step. If the resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair the key-in ignition switch sense circuit for an open.
  5. If there are no possible causes remaining, replace the BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
