Chime Inoperative
- Using scan tool, activate chime. If chime sounds, system is okay at this time. If chime does not sound, go to next step.
- Remove and disconnect instrument cluster connectors. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY, & VOYAGER article. Locate and disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C4. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS
. See Fig 1
. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe BCM connector C4 terminal No. 34 (Violet/Orange wire). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair short to ground in Violet/Orange wire between BCM connector C4 terminal No. 34 and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 11. See Fig 2
.
- Using DVOM, measure voltage between BCM connector C4 terminal No. 34 (Violet/Orange wire) and ground. If voltage is 5 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 5 volts, repair short to voltage in Violet/Orange wire between BCM connector C4 terminal No. 34 and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 11. See Fig 2
.
- Reconnect BCM connector C4. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe BCM connector C4 terminal No. 34 (Violet/Orange wire). See Fig 1
. Using scan tool, activate chime. If test light illuminates, replace instrument cluster. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Disconnect BCM connector C4. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Violet/Orange wire between BCM connector C4 terminal No. 34 and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 11. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Violet/Orange wire.
