41TE Transmission Verification Test

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under driver's side of instrument panel, left of steering column. Reconnect any disconnected components. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, record and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) from Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
  2. Using scan tool, monitor TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE. Start and run engine until transmission temperature is greater than 110°F (43.3°C). Check transmission fluid level and adjust as necessary.
NOTE: If TCM or torque converter have been replaced, perform PINION FACTOR AND SHIFT QUALITY quick learn procedure on scan tool. See pinion factor procedure and transaxle shift quality quick learn procedure in COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If torque converter is replaced or TCM is replaced and torque converter has less than 3750 miles and less than 360 minutes of Partial Electronically Modulated Converter Clutch (PEMCC), use scan tool to reset TCC break-in. This will eliminate possible shudder.
  3. Road test vehicle. Using scan tool, monitor engine RPM. Perform 15-20 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd, and 3rd-4th upshifts. Perform upshifts from a standing start to 45 MPH with steady throttle opening of 20-25 degrees.
  4. Drive vehicle 25 MPH or less and perform 5-8 wide open throttle kickdowns to 1st gear. Allow at least 5 seconds each in 2nd or 3rd gear between each kickdown.
  5. If verification test is being performed after repairing a specific DTC, try and duplicate conditions to reset DTCs. If DTCs set, go to appropriate DTC diagnosis and repair procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTCs do not set, repair is complete.
NOTE: Use EATX OBDII TASK MANAGER on scan tool to check for GOOD TRIP status. If a GOOD TRIP is made in each gear, repair is complete and DTC has not reset.
