Incomplete Latch Cinch - Ratchet Switch Failure

NOTE: This DTC will only set after door cinch operation after 4-second time-out function. Conditions to set DTC may be difficult to reproduce.
NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Using scan tool, record and erase DTCs. Turn ignition off. Wait 10 seconds. Turn ignition on. Operate power liftgate several times if possible. Recheck for DTCs. If INCOMPLETE LATCH CINCH - RATCHET SWITCH FAILURE resets, go to next step. If INCOMPLETE LATCH CINCH - RATCHET SWITCH FAILURE does not reset, system is operating properly at this time. Check for intermittent poor connections or faulty circuits.
  2. Visually inspect liftgate for proper alignment, damaged strikers, damaged latches or obstructions. Repair as necessary. If possible, check operation of liftgate on a known-good vehicle. If liftgate effort is excessive, diagnose power liftgate by symptom. See TROUBLE SHOOTING in POWER SLIDING DOORS & LIFTGATE - CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY, & VOYAGER article. If liftgate effort is not excessive, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, select INPUTS/OUTPUTS and monitor RATCHET SWITCH state. Open liftgate completely. Using a screwdriver, manually move liftgate cinch/release motor latch to second click (detent) while observing DVOM. Use liftgate release handle to open liftgate cinch/release motor latch. Repeat procedure several times while moving liftgate to different positions and wiggling wiring harness. If RATCHET SWITCH state does not change every time liftgate cinch/release motor latch is manually moved and released, go to next step. If RATCHET SWITCH state changes every time liftgate cinch/release motor latch is manually moved and released, replace Power Liftgate Module (PLGM). See POWER LIFTGATE MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect liftgate cinch/release motor connector. See Figure . To access connector, door panel will need to be removed. For removal and installation procedures, see POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe liftgate cinch/release motor connector terminal No. 4 (Black/Gray wire). Wiggle wire with test light connected. If test light is illuminated steady and bright, go to next step. If test light flickers, is not illuminated or is dim, repair open in Black/Gray wire between liftgate cinch/release motor and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER SLIDING DOORS & LIFTGATE - CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY, & VOYAGER article.
  5. Disconnect Power Liftgate Module (PLGM) connector C2. See Figure . To access connector, left rear trim will need to be removed. See POWER LIFTGATE MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Orange/Gray wire between PLGM connector C2 terminal No. 1 and liftgate cinch/release motor connector terminal No. 7. See Figure . Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms or varies, repair open in Orange/Gray wire between liftgate cinch/release motor and PLGM.
  6. Using DVOM, measure resistance between PLGM connector C2 terminal No. 20 (Black/Light Green wire) and liftgate cinch/release motor connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Orange wire). Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms or varies, repair open in ground circuit between liftgate cinch/release motor and PLGM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER SLIDING DOORS & LIFTGATE - CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY, & VOYAGER article.
  7. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Violet/Orange wire between PLGM connector C2 terminal No. 12 and liftgate cinch/release motor connector terminal No. 2. Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms or varies, repair open in Violet/Orange wire.
  8. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and PLGM connector C2 terminal No. 12 (Violet/Orange wire). Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at greater than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less or varies, repair short to ground in Violet/Orange wire.
  9. Using DVOM, measure resistance between PLGM connector C2 terminals No. 12 (Violet/Orange wire) and No. 20 (Black/Light Green wire). Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at greater than 1000 ohms, replace liftgate cinch/release motor. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less or varies, repair short between Violet/Orange and Black/Light Green wires.
