No Response From ORC
WARNING:
Before servicing any air bag components, turn ignition off, disconnect battery cables and wait a minimum of 2 minutes for air bag system to discharge.
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for any Front Control Module (FCM) DTCs. If any FCM DTCs are set, repair as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION
table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no FCM DTCs are set, turn ignition off and disconnect battery cables and wait a minimum of 2 minutes for air bag system to discharge. Disconnect Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS
. Turn ignition on first, then reconnect battery cables. Using a test light connected to ground, probe ORC connector terminals No. 14 (Pink/Orange wire) and No. 15 (Pink/Violet wire). See Fig 1
. If test light illuminates at both terminals, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate at both circuits, repair open in circuit for terminal that test light did not illuminate. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.WARNING: Turn ignition off, disconnect battery cables and wait a minimum of 2 minutes for air bag system to discharge.
- Turn ignition off, disconnect battery cables and wait a minimum of 2 minutes for air bag system to discharge. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and ORC connector terminal No. 16 (Black/Orange wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Orange wire. After repairs, turn ignition off and disconnect battery cables. Then reconnect RSIACM, turn ignition on and then reconnect battery cables.WARNING: Turn ignition on first, then reconnect battery cables.
- Obtain Scope Input Cable (CH7058), Cable To Probe Adapter (CH7062) and Red and Black test probes. Connect scope input cable to channel 1 connector on scan tool. Connect Red and Black test probes and probe adapter to scope input cable. Select STANDALONE on scan tool. Select LAB SCOPE then LIVE DATA. Select 12V SQUARE WAVE. Press F2 for scope then enter to select channel. Press F2 again and use down arrow to set voltage range to 20 volts. Press F2 again to complete. Connect Black probe to ground and Red probe to ORC connector terminal No. 21 (White/Violet wire). See Fig 1
. Ensure battery is connected and ignition is on. Monitor scope on scan tool. If voltage pulses between zero and 7.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage does not pulse between zero and 7.5 volts, repair open in White/Violet wire between ORC and diagnostic junction port terminal No. 4. See Figure
.WARNING: Before reconnecting RSIACM, turn ignition off and disconnect battery cables. Then reconnect RSIACM, turn ignition on and then reconnect battery cables.
- Replace ORC. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
