No Response From Left Side Impact Air Bag Control Module
WARNING:
Ensure ignition is off and battery is disconnected for about 2 minutes before disconnecting Side Impact Air Bag Control Module (SIACM).
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Ensure battery is fully charged. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select PASSIVE RESTRAINTS then AIR BAG. Using scan tool, read ACTIVE DTCs. If any DTCs are present, diagnose and repair as necessary. See lemon-25(R) AIR BAG SERVICE & REPAIR, DOMESTIC & IMPORTED manual. If no DTCs are present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect battery negative cable. Disconnect left SIACM 6-pin, located behind left "B" pillar. Measure resistance between ground and terminals No. 5 (Black wire) and No. 6 (Black wire) at left SIACM harness connector. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more at any terminal, repair open or high resistance in appropriate Black wire between left SIACM and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms at both terminals, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Reconnect battery. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Yellow wire) at left SIACM harness connector. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Light Green/Yellow wire between left SIACM and fuse No. 17 (10-amp) in junction block. Junction block is located under left side of instrument panel. Also check fuse No. 17 in junction block.
- Using Scope Input Cable (CH7058), Cable-To-Probe Adapter (CH7062), and Red and Black test leads, connect scope input cable to channel one connector. Attach Red and Black leads and cable-to-probe adapter to scope input cable. Using DRBIII(R) scan tool, select PEP MODULE TOOLS, LAB SCOPE, LIVE DATA, then 12-VOLT SQUARE WAVE. Press F2 for SCOPE and ENTER to select channel. Press F2 to set voltage range to 20-volts. Press F2 again when complete. Connect Black lead to ground. Connect Red lead to terminal No. 2 (Violet/Yellow wire) at left SIACM harness connector. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Observe voltage display on lab scope. Voltage should pulse between zero and 7.5-volts. If voltage is as specified, replace left SIACM. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) C2 26-pin connector. BCM is connected to junction block under left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance between terminals No. 21 (Violet/Light Green wire) at BCM C2 harness connector and No. 2 (Violet/Yellow wire) at left SIACM harness connector. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Violet/Light Green wire or Violet/Yellow wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM.
