CLOCKSPRING Centering Procedure

WARNING: Disconnect and isolate battery negative (ground) cable before beginning any Air Bag system component removal or installation procedure. This will disable Air Bag system. Failure to disconnect battery could result in accidental Air Bag deployment and possible personal injury. Allow system capacitor to discharge for 2 minutes before removing any Air Bag components.

If rotating tape within clockspring is not positioned properly with steering wheel and front wheels, clockspring may fail during use. The following procedure MUST BE USED to center clockspring if:

  1. Remove clockspring, see CLOCKSPRING  removal procedure. Rotate clockspring rotor in "Clockwise Direction" to end of travel. DO NOT apply excessive torque. From end of travel, rotate rotor 2 1/2 full turns in counterclockwise direction. The horn wire and squib wire should end up at bottom.
  2. If not, rotate rotor counter clockwise until wires are properly orientated, but not more than 1/2 turn (180 degrees). Engage clockspring locking mechanism. DO NOT connect battery negative cable.
