Traction Control Switch

  1. Turn ignition on. Depress traction control switch several times while observing Amber traction control warning (TRAC OFF) light on instrument cluster. Traction control switch is mounted on instrument panel, to right of steering column. If TRAC OFF light turns on and off while pressing switch, test is complete. If TRAC OFF light does not turn on and off while pressing switch, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Depress traction control switch on dash several times while watching TRAC OFF light in instrument cluster. If instrument cluster displays TRAC OFF all the time, go to next step. If instrument cluster does not display TRAC OFF all the time, go to step  6.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CAB connector. Disconnect traction control switch connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Red/Yellow wire between switch connector and ground, while pressing switch. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Yellow wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect traction control switch connector. Measure resistance between switch connector Red/Yellow wire and Black wire. If resistance is less than 2.0 ohms, replace traction control switch. If resistance is more than 2.0 ohms, go to next step.
  5. If there are no potential causes remaining, replace CAB. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect traction control switch connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage of traction control switch sensor circuit (Red/Yellow wire) in vehicle harness. If voltage is more than 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 9 volts, go to step  9.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect traction control switch connector. Measure resistance in ground circuit in switch harness. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in ground circuit.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect traction control switch connector. Measure resistance between Red/Yellow and Black wire terminals on switch connector while pressing switch. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, test is complete. If resistance is more than 2 ohms, replace traction control switch.
  9. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CAB connector. Disconnect traction control switch connector. Measure resistance between ground and traction control switch Red/Yellow wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Yellow wire.
  10. Turn ignition off. Disconnect traction control switch connector. Measure resistance between Red/Yellow and Black wires on switch, while depressing switch. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 2 ohms, replace traction control switch.
  11. If there are no potential causes remaining, replace CAB.
