Right Front Sensor Signal Failure

  1. Using scan tool, read system trouble codes. If scan tool displays Right Front Sensor Circuit Failure, go to RIGHT FRONT SENSOR CIRCUIT FAILURE . If scan tool does not display Right Front Sensor Circuit Failure, go to next step.
  2. While monitoring Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor signal on scan tool , have an assistant drive vehicle while slowly accelerating straight ahead from a stop to 15 MPH. If RF WSS shows zero MPH, go to next step. If RF WSS does not show zero MPH, go to step  10.
  3. Inspect RF tone wheel for damaged or missing teeth. Ensure teeth are square and are not bent or nicked. If tone wheel is okay, go to next step. If tone wheel is damaged, replace tone wheel. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  4. Inspect sensor for looseness or damage. Repair sensor as necessary. If sensor is okay, go to next step.
  5. Inspect RF wheel bearings for excessive runout or clearance. If no excessive wheel bearing runout or clearance exists, go to next step. If excessive wheel bearing runout or clearance exists, repair as necessary. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  6. Using feeler gauge, measure air gap between end of sensor and teeth on tone wheel at 4 different places on tone wheel. Air gap should be .012-.059" (.30-1.50 mm). If air gap is within specification, go to next step. If air gap is not within specification, repair components as necessary. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CAB connector. Connect jumper wire between harness side of sensor White wire and sensor connector mating terminal. Using voltmeter in DC mode, backprobe sensor White wire at sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Slowly rotate wheel while observing voltage. If voltage toggles from 1.6 volts to .8 volt as wheel rotates, go to next step. If voltage does not change, replace sensor. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CAB connector. Using voltmeter in DC mode, backprobe CAB connector terminal No. 19 (White/Dark Blue wire). Reconnect CAB connector.
  9. If there are no potential causes remaining, replace sensor. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  10. Turn ignition off. Check wheel speed sensor, tone wheel and wiring harness. Check brakes for locking up due to lining contamination or overheating. Check all components for defects, which may cause DTC to set. If any components are damaged, repair as necessary. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES. If components are not damaged, test is completed.
