Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal

  1. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn steering wheel 180 degrees clockwise. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove ignition key from lock cylinder.
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Ensure negative battery cable is disconnected from stud on shock tower and isolated from all other components. Wait 2 minutes for reserve capacitor to discharge. Remove steering wheel and air bag module. See STEERING WHEEL & AIR BAG MODULE  . If equipped with remote radio switches, speed control switches can remain attached to wire connectors.
  3. Remove tilt wheel lever. Remove upper and lower steering column shrouds. Disconnect clockspring electrical connectors. See Figure . Remove 2 clockspring mounting screws and pull clockspring from steering shaft.
