All Gauges Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ELECTRO/MECHANICAL cluster. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to NO RESPONSE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under COMMUNICATIONS. If scan tool displays a CCD bus failure message, go to appropriate test under COMMUNICATIONS  . If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE or a CCD bus failure message, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Identify scan tool message and proceed as follows:
    • If scan tool displays ROM TEST FAILURE, recalibrate all gauges using scan tool.
    • If scan tool displays RAM TEST FAILURE, replace instrument cluster printed circuit board. After replacement is complete, recalibrate all gauges using scan tool. Speedo/tach will not operate until cluster has been completely recalibrated.
    • If scan tool displays BODY COMPUTER ODOMETER FAILURE, replace Body Control Module (BCM).
    • If scan tool displays NO MESSAGE FROM BCM, go to BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DISCONNECTED OR NO RESPONSE FROM BCM  under COMMUNICATIONS.
    • If scan tool displays NO MESSAGE FROM PCM, go to NO RESPONSE FROM PCM  under COMMUNICATIONS.
    • If scan tool displays NO MESSAGE FROM TCM, go to NO RESPONSE FROM TCM  under COMMUNICATIONS.

If scan tool does not display any of the above messages, go to next step.

  3. Using scan tool, select BODY, then BODY COMPUTER, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read ignition unlock status. If scan tool displays IGNITION UNLOCK: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display IGNITION UNLOCK: CLOSED, identify communication related symptom and perform appropriate test under COMMUNICATIONS. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  4. Using scan tool, select BODY, then ELECTOR/MECH CLUSTER (MIC). Select ACTUATOR TEST, then actuate ALL GAUGES. If gauges move from lower to upper limits, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . If gauges do not operate, replace instrument cluster circuit board. Using scan tool, recalibrate all gauges.
