Low Oil Pressure Warning Light

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn ignition off. Check engine oil level. If engine oil level is okay, go to next step. If oil level is low, top off oil level as necessary and recheck warning light operation.
  2. Turn ignition on. Observe low oil pressure warning light. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to step  8 . If oil warning light illuminates, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove oil pressure switch. See OIL PRESSURE SWITCH LOCATION  table. Connect oil pressure gauge. Start engine and run until normal operating temperature is reached. If oil pressure at idle is less than 4 psi, service engine mechanical condition for cause of low oil pressure. If oil pressure at idle is 4 psi or more, go to next step.
    OIL PRESSURE SWITCH LOCATION

    Engine Location
2.4L Side Of Cylinder Block, Under Exhaust Manifold
    3.0L Next To Oil Filter
    3.3L & 3.8L Below A/C Compressor
  4. Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. If oil warning light is not illuminated, replace oil pressure switch. If oil warning light is illuminated, go to next step.
  5. Access Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Disconnect BCM connector "B". Observe low oil warning light. If oil warning light is not illuminated, repair short to ground in Gray wire between oil pressure switch and BCM connector "B". If warning light is illuminated, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect BCM connector "A". See Figure . Observe low oil warning light operation. If oil warning light is not illuminated, replace BCM. If warning light is illuminated, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect information center 13-pin connector. Remove ignition key. Turn off all lights and accessories. Close all doors. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 8 (Gray wire) at information center 13-pin connector. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace information center. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Gray wire between information center and BCM connector "A".
  8. Disconnect oil pressure switch connector. See OIL PRESSURE SWITCH LOCATION  table. Connect a jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Gray wire) at oil pressure switch connector. If oil warning light illuminates, replace oil pressure switch. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  9. Access Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Remove BCM connector "B" cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect one end of a jumper wire to ground. Using other end of jumper wire, backprobe terminal No. 52 (Gray wire) at BCM connector "B". If oil warning light illuminates, repair open in Gray wire. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  10. Disconnect BCM connector "A". Connect one end of a jumper wire to ground. Using other end of jumper wire, backprobe terminal No. 33 (Gray wire) at BCM connector "A". If oil warning light illuminates, replace BCM. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  11. Access information center 13-pin connector. Do not disconnect connector. Connect one end of a jumper wire to ground. Using other end of jumper wire, backprobe terminal No. 8 (Gray wire) at information center 13-pin connector. See Figure . If oil warning light illuminates, repair open in Gray wire. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  12. Disconnect information center 13-pin connector. Remove and inspect oil warning light bulb from information center. Replace bulb as necessary. If bulb is okay, replace information center.
