Headlights Will Not Turn Off

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read HEADLIGHT SWITCH SENSE. If scan tool displays HEADLAMP SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display HEADLAMP SW: CLOSED, go to step  4 .
  2. Disconnect headlight switch connectors. Using scan tool, read HEADLIGHT SWITCH SENSE. If scan tool displays HEADLAMP SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display HEADLAMP SW: CLOSED, replace headlight switch.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector "A". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Light Green/Orange wire) at headlight switch 8-pin connector. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/Orange wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace BCM.
  4. Remove low beam and high beam relays from Power Distribution Center (PDC) in engine compartment next to battery. See Fig 1 . If headlights turn off, go to next step. If headlights do not turn off, go to step  10 .
  5. If vehicle is equipped with quad headlight system, go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with quad headlight system, go to step  8 .
  6. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 85 (Orange/White wire) at low beam relay socket in PDC. See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace low beam relay.
  7. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector "B". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 76 (Orange/White wire) at BCM connector "B". See Figure . If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/White wire. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace BCM.
  8. Remove lower steering column cover. Disconnect multifunction switch 12-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 85 (Orange/White wire) at low beam relay socket in PDC. See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/White wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  9. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (Pink wire) at multifunction switch connector. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Pink wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace low beam relay.
  10. If problem is with low beam headlights, go to next step. If problem is with high beam headlights, go to step  12 .
  11. Remove fuse No. 9 (HEADLIGHT LOW RIGHT) from PDC. See Fig 1 . If right low beam headlight turns off, repair short to voltage in Violet/Orange wire between left low beam headlight and battery. If right low beam does not turn off, repair short to voltage in Violet/Orange wire between right low beam headlight and battery.
  12. Remove fuse No. 19 (HEADLIGHT HIGH RIGHT) from PDC. See Fig 1 . If right high beam headlight turns off, repair short to voltage in Red/Orange wire between left high beam headlight and battery. If right high beam does not turn off, repair short to voltage in Red/Orange wire between right high beam headlight and battery.
