Automatic Headlights Will Not Turn On

  1. Using scan tool, select SENSOR DISPLAY. Read ignition voltage. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DISCONNECTED OR NO RESPONSE FROM BCM  under COMMUNICATIONS. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, select READ DTCs. If scan tool displays AUTO HEADLIGHTS SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN, go to AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN  . If scan tool does not display AUTO HEADLIGHTS SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Turn headlight switch to AUTO position. Cover sensor on back of interior electrochromic (rear view) mirror. If headlights illuminate, system is functioning properly at this time. Fault may be intermittent. If headlights do not illuminate, go to next step.
  4. Ensure sensor on back of interior electrochromic mirror is still covered. Using scan tool, select BODY, BODY COMPUTER, then SENSORS. Read AUTO HEADLAMP SENS VOLTS. If voltage reading is .0-.5 volt, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . If voltage reading is not .0-.5 volt, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect BCM connector "B". Connect a jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 51 (White/Light Green wire) at BCM connector "B". See Figure . Disconnect interior electrochromic mirror connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 7 (White/Light Green wire) at interior electrochromic mirror connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace interior electrochromic mirror. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Light Green wire.
