Test NTC-19: Checking 5-Volt Supply Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  1. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at terminal No. 3 (Violet/White wire) on TP sensor connector. If voltage is less than 4.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage 4.5 volts or more, go to step  8 .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect A/C pressure sensor connector. A/C pressure sensor is located on A/C refrigerant line on firewall, near front of generator. See Figure .
  3. Ensure TP sensor connector is still disconnected. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at terminal No. 3 (Violet/White wire) on TP sensor connector. If voltage is 4.0 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage more than 4.0 volts, replace A/C pressure sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A  .
  4. Turn ignition off. Note location of Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor. See Fig 1 -Fig 3 . MAP sensor contains a 3-pin connector.

  5. Disconnect MAP sensor connector. Ensure A/C pressure sensor and TP sensor connector are still disconnected. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at terminal No. 3 (Violet/White wire) on TP sensor connector. If voltage is 4.0 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage more than 4.0 volts, replace MAP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A  .
  6. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. PCM is located between driver's side front fender and power distribution center, near battery.
  7. Ensure MAP sensor connector, A/C pressure sensor and TP sensor connector are still disconnected. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Violet/White wire) on TP sensor connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2A  . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Violet/White wire between PCM, MAP sensor, A/C pressure sensor and TP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A  .
  8. Turn ignition off. Note location of MAP sensor. See Fig 1 -Fig 3 . MAP sensor contains a 3-pin connector.
  9. Disconnect MAP sensor connector. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at Violet/White wire on MAP sensor connector. If voltage is 4.5 volts or more, test is complete. If voltage is less than 4.5 volts, replace TP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A  .
