NTC-1: Brake Switch Sense
Possible Causes:
- Ground circuit open.
- Defective brake switch.
- Brake switch sense circuit open or shorted.
- Defective PCM.
NOTE:
Upon completion of repairs, perform TEST VER-4A under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake switch connector. Inspect connector. Clean or repair brake switch connector or terminals as necessary. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, check voltage of brake switch sense circuit at brake switch harness connector terminal No. 1 (White/Pink wire). If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If reading is 10 volts or less, go to step 3.
- Turn ignition off. Connect a jumper wire between brake switch connector terminals No. 1 (White/Pink wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). Using scan tool, read brake switch input status. If scan tool displays brake switch status as RELEASED, replace brake switch. If scan tool does not display brake switch status as RELEASED, repair open in ground circuit (Black wire).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors. Inspect connector terminals. If any terminal is damaged, pushed out or miswired, repair PCM connectors as necessary. If terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and PCM connector C2 terminal No. 62 (White/Pink wire). If resistance less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in White/Pink wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance in White/Pink wire between PCM connector C2 terminal No. 62 and brake switch harness connector terminal No. 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Pink wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM.
