Chime Inoperative With Turn Signal On For One Mile

  1. Test drive vehicle. If speedometer is not functioning properly, go to appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article and diagnose speedometer. If speedometer is functioning, go to next step.
  2. Turn signals must be operating properly for chime to work. Operate turn signal in both directions. If turn signals do not function correctly, repair as necessary. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article and appropriate wiring diagram in EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  3. Turn ignition on. Turn left turn signal on. Using scan tool, read turn signal state in BODY, INPUTS/OUTPUTS. If scan tool displays OPEN, then CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OPEN, then CLOSED, go to step  7 .
  4. Operate right turn signal. Using scan tool, read turn signal state. If scan tool displays OPEN, then CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OPEN, then CLOSED, go to step  7 .
  5. Using scan tool, read turn signal status in CHIME MONITORS. If scan tool does not display ENABLED, go to next step. If scan tool displays ENABLED, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure .
  6. Using scan tool, enable turn signal chime. Raise and support vehicle. Start engine and move shift selector lever to Drive position. Turn left turn signal on. Increase vehicle speed to more than 20 MPH. Maintain speed for one mile. If chime sounds, system is functioning properly at this time. Fault may be intermittent. If chime does not sound, replace BCM.
  7. Turn ignition off. Remove Body Control Module (BCM) to gain access to junction block internal 23-pin connector. BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Operate left turn signal. Using a test light connected to ground, probe terminal No. 19 at junction block internal 23-pin connector. See Fig 1 . If test light flashes, go to next step. If test light does not flash, replace junction block.
  8. Operate right turn signal. Move test light probe to terminal No. 21 at junction block internal 23-pin connector. See Fig 1 . If test light flashes, replace BCM. If test light does not flash, replace junction block.
