Test NTC-17: Checking Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Calibration
- Ensure ignition is off. Check throttle cable, cruise control cable (if equipped) and throttle valve on throttle body for binding. If no binding exists, go to next step. If binding exists, repair or replace components as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Ensure throttle is fully closed and against throttle stop screw. Using scan tool, monitor Throttle Position (TP) sensor voltage while slowly moving throttle from closed position to fully open position. If TP sensor voltage is at least 3.4 volts with throttle fully open, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage is not at least 3.4 volts with throttle fully open, replace TP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Ensure ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor TP sensor voltage while slowly moving throttle from closed position to fully open position. If TP sensor voltage changes smoothly, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage does not change smoothly, replace TP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Ensure ignition is on with engine off and throttle is fully closed and against throttle stop screw. Using scan tool, read TP sensor voltage. If TP sensor voltage is 1.5 volts or less with throttle fully closed, TP sensor is operating properly. Test is complete. If TP sensor voltage is more than 1.5 volts with throttle fully closed, replace TP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
