Wipers Not Working In Intermittent Mode (Except Sebring Convertible)

  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. DLC is located above hood release handle on driver's kick panel. Select BODY CONTROL MODULE on scan tool. If scan tool operates properly, go to next step. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DISCONNECT; IGNITION VOLTAGE TOO LOW; NO RESPONSE FROM BCM (BAT PWR DISCON'D); BATTERY POWER TO MODULE  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for any DTCs. If any DTCs are set, go to next step. If no DTCs are set, go to step  5.
  3. Turn ignition on. Record and erase any trouble codes in Body Control Module (BCM). Operate wipers in LOW, HIGH and all intermittent positions. Turn wipers off and activate washers. If wiper park switch DTC does not set, go to next step. If wiper park switch DTC sets, go to step  5.
  4. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe wiper voltage while moving stalk switch through all intermittent wiper positions. If voltage changes proportionally to wiper switch position, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage does not change, replace multifunction switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  5. Turn ignition on. Operate wiper in intermittent mode. Using scan tool, select MONITOR DISPLAY, WIPER SYSTEM and observe wiper park switch. If wiper park switch does not toggle from closed to open, turn wipers off and go to next step. If wiper park switch toggles from closed to open, system is operating properly. Using scan tool, clear trouble codes, and try to reproduce fault.
  6. Disconnect wiper motor Light Gray 4-pin connector and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool, continue observing wiper park switch. Connect a jumper wire between ground and wiper motor 4-pin connector terminal "D" (Tan/Red wire). See Figure. If scan tool does not display SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays SWITCH: CLOSED, replace wiper motor. See appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article.
  7. Locate BCM 14-pin connector C1. See Figure. Using a jumper wire, backprobe between ground and BCM 14-pin connector C1 terminal No. 2 (Tan/Red wire). See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If scan tool does not display SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays SWITCH: CLOSED, repair open in Tan/Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  8. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
