Powertrain Verification Test VER-5

  1. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Ensure all engine components are properly connected, grounded and installed. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) and erase all DTCs.
  2. If any existing DTCs have not been repaired, go to appropriate diagnostic procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .
  3. Ensure fuel tank is at least 1/4 full. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If PCM has been replaced, go to next step. If PCM has not been replaced, go to step  7.
  4. If PCM has been replaced, and correct VIN and mileage have not been programmed, a DTC will be set in ABS, air bag and SKIM modules. If vehicle is equipped with Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), secret key data must be updated to enable starting. See PROGRAMMING in ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - CONCORDE, INTREPID, LHS & 300M article.
  5. For ABS and air bag systems, enter correct VIN and mileage in PCM. Erase DTCs in ABS and air bag modules. Inspect vehicle to ensure that all engine components are connected. Reassemble and connect components as necessary.
  6. For SKIM alarm, connect scan tool to DLC and go to THEFT ALARM, SKIM, MISC on scan tool and place SKIM in secured access mode by using appropriate PIN code for this vehicle. See PROGRAMMING in ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - CONCORDE, INTREPID, LHS & 300M article. Select UPDATE SECRET KEY DATA. Data will be transferred from SKIM to PCM.
  7. A component DTC will require 2 minutes of engine run time without any DTCs to increment a Good Trip. Go to next step. To verify an OBD-II DTC repair, PCM must run appropriate monitor(s) and increment a Good Trip. Go to step  10.
  8. After ignition has been turned off for at least 10 seconds, restart vehicle and run for 2 minutes. If Good Trip counter changed to one or more and there are no new DTCs, repair is complete. Erase DTCs and disconnect scan tool.
  9. If any DTC sets, go to appropriate diagnosis and repair procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS . Check for related TSB's or flash updates for PCM.
  10. A monitor DTC will require using scan tool pretest screen to monitor enabling conditions for DTC to set. When conditions are met, switch to appropriate OBD-II monitor.
  11. If monitor ran and Good Trip counter changed to one or more and there are no new DTCs, repair is complete. Erase DTCs and disconnect scan tool.
  12. If DTC resets or is seen during road test, check for related TSB's or flash updates for PCM.
  13. If any other DTC sets, go to appropriate diagnosis and repair procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .
