Valve Body: Disassembly

  1. Remove manual valve lever-to-valve body retaining bolt. Slide TR sensor from manual valve lever. See Figure .
  2. Remove solenoid assembly-to-transfer plate bolts. Remove solenoid assembly and screen. Remove bolts and valve body plate support.
    CAUTION: Use care when separating transfer plate from valve body. Do not allow check balls to fall from valve body.
  3. Separate transfer plate and separator plate from valve body, noting location of thermal valve and regulator valve screen in transfer plate. See Figure and Figure .
  4. NOTE: The following step was written using ATRA TSB No. 566, dated 09/2000.
  5. Transaxle is equipped with 4 check balls and low-reverse switch valve, or 5 check balls. Low-Reverse switch valve replaces one check ball on some valve body designs. See Figure .
  6. Note location of check balls and retainers in valve body. See Figure . Using Retainer Remover/Installer (6301), remove retainer for torque converter control valve and torque converter switch valve. See Figure .
  7. Using Retainer Remover/Installer (6302), remove retainer for regulator valve. See Figure . Remove valve body components. See Figure . Note location of components for reassembly reference.
