Section 71 (Engine Cooling System & Automatic Transmission Cooling System): Radiator: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Concorde, and 2002 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: It is not necessary to discharge air conditioning system when removing the radiator.
  1. Disconnect negative cable from remote jumper terminal.
    WARNING: Do not remove the cylinder block plug or the radiator draincock with the system hot and under pressure because serious burns from coolant can occur.
  2. Drain cooling system. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING )
  3. Remove radiator upper crossmember.
    1. Mark bolt locations on the radiator upper crossmember.
    2. Remove bolts attaching windshield washer bottle and speed servo, if equipped. (Refer to Figure.)
    3. Remove headlamp jackscrews both sides.
    4. Remove fasteners attaching upper bumper fascia.
    5. Remove bolts attaching the upper forward edge of upper radiator closure panel.
    6. Remove bolts attaching upper radiator closure panel
    7. Disconnect hood latch cable from hood latch.
    8. Remove upper radiator closure panel from vehicle.
    9. For replacement of upper radiator upper crossmember, remove hood latch, and any other hardware.
  4. Remove upper and lower coolant hoses from the radiator.
  5. Disconnect transmission hoses from cooler and plug (Fig 1).

  6. Disconnect engine oil cooler lines (if equipped) (Fig 1).
  7. Disconnect the radiator fan electrical connector (Fig 2).

  8. Remove radiator fan (Fig 2).
    CAUTION: Avoid bending the condenser inlet tube Care should be taken not to damage radiator or condenser cooling fins or water tubes during removal.
  9. Remove the air conditioning condenser attaching screws located at the front of the radiator (Fig 3) or (Fig 4).

  10. Remove fastener attaching transmission cooler line bracket to left side of radiator (Fig 3) or (Fig 4).
  11. Lift condenser upward enough to disengage upper mounting clips. Allow condenser to rest on lower radiator crossmember. It is not necessary to discharge the air conditioning system.
  12. Radiator can now be lifted from engine compartment. Care should be taken not to damage radiator cooling fins or water tubes during removal.
