Scan Tool Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2002 Dodge Stratus, 2002 Dodge Neon, 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Sebring, and 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Do not check belt tension with engine running.
Check belt tension using Special Tool (8371 Belt Tension Gauge Adapter), and the DRBIII® scan tool by performing the following:
- Install belt around pulleys.
- Adjust belt tension to specification. See TENSION GAUGE PROCEDURE .
- Connect special tool to the scan tool following the instructions provided with tool.
- Place end of microphone probe approximately 1 in. (25.4 mm) from belt at the center of lower side of belt span.
- Using your finger or other suitable tool, pluck the belt a minimum of 3 times.
- The frequency of the belt in hertz (Hz) will display on DRBIII® screen.
- Adjust belt to obtain proper frequency (tension). See BELT FREQUENCY table.
- Tighten fasteners.
