CCD Short To 5 Volts

NOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM), if equipped. TCM is located next to power distribution center in left front corner of engine compartment. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace TCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located next to air cleaner. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to step  16 . If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to step  14 . If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Smart Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), if equipped. SKIM is located at ignition lock cylinder. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace SKIM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect anti-lock brake controller module. Anti-lock brake controller module is mounted on right inner fender panel of engine compartment. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace anti-lock brake controller module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off and wait 5 minutes. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) connector. ACM is located under center console. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace ACM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 22-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and DLC terminal No. 3 (Violet/Gray wire on Breeze, Cirrus and Stratus and Violet/Brown wire on Sebring Convertible). If voltage is more than .5 volt, repair Violet/Gray or Violet/Brown wire for short to voltage. If voltage is .5 volt or less, go to next step.
  8. Measure voltage between ground and DLC terminal No. 11 (White/Dark Green on Breeze, Cirrus and Stratus and White/Dark Blue wire on Sebring Convertible). If voltage is more than .5 volt, repair White/Dark Green wire or White/Dark Blue wire for short to voltage. If voltage is less than .5 volt, go to next step.
  9. Turn ignition off. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between Body Control Module (BCM) 22-pin connector terminal No. 7 (Light Green/Black wire) and each CCD BUS (+) terminals on BCM 22-pin connector. See CCD BUS CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance between any terminals is less than 5 ohms, repair appropriate wire for short to Light Green/Black wire. If resistance of all terminals are 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  10. Measure resistance between BCM 22-pin connector terminal No. 7 (Light Green/Black wire) and each CCD BUS (-) terminals on BCM 22-pin connector. See CCD BUS CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance between any terminals is less than 5 ohms, repair appropriate wire for short to Light Green/Black wire. If resistance of all terminals are 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  11. Measure resistance between BCM 22-pin connector terminal No. 17 (Light Blue wire) and each CCD BUS (+) terminals on BCM 22-pin connector. See CCD BUS CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance between any terminals is less than 5 ohms, repair appropriate wire for short to Light Blue wire. If resistance of all terminals are 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  12. Measure resistance between BCM 22-pin connector terminal No. 17 (Light Blue wire) and each CCD BUS (-) terminals on BCM 22-pin connector. See CCD BUS CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance between any terminals is less than 5 ohms, repair appropriate wire for short to Light Blue wire. If resistance of all terminals are 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  13. Reconnect scan tool from DLC. Using scan tool, perform CCD bus test. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace BCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace scan tool cable or scan tool as necessary.
  14. Turn ignition off. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster Red connector terminal No. 4 (Black/Light Green wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black/Light Green wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  15. Measure resistance of instrument cluster Blue connector, terminal No. 11 (Black/Orange wire) circuit. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black/Orange wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster circuit board.
  16. Turn ignition off. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between PCM connector terminals No. 59 (Violet/Brown wire) and No. 61 (Violet/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Violet/Brown wire and Violet/White wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  17. Measure resistance between PCM connector terminals No. 60 (White/Black wire) and No. 61 (Violet/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between White/Black wire and Violet/White wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace PCM.
