Purge System Flow Check

  1. Disconnect purge hose from EVAP canister. Connect Purge Flow Indicator (MB995061) to EVAP canister and purge hose. Ensure coolant temperature is 176-203°F (80-95°C).
  2. Ensure lights, cooling fan and all accessories are turned off. Shift transmission into Park or Neutral. Let engine idle for 3 minutes or more. While quickly revving engine several times, observe purge flow volume.
  3. Purge flow volume should be momentarily 1.2 in3 /sec (20 cm3 /sec) or more. If volume is less than specified, disconnect vacuum hose from EVAP canister and repeat test. If volume is still less than specified, check for plugged vacuum hose or port. If volume is as specified with hose disconnected from EVAP canister, replace EVAP canister.
