Starting System - Coupe: Description
Models equipped with V6 engine use a Mitsubishi reduction gear drive starter. Starter consists of a planetary gear drive and permanent magnets for current induction. Planetary gear drive is splined to both the armature shaft and overrunning clutch. Starter torque is transmitted to overrunning clutch pinion through planetary gears, which provide higher rotational speeds.
Models equipped with 4-cylinder engine use a conventional 12-volt, 4-pole brush type direct drive starter.

Starters are extremely sensitive to hammering, shocks and external pressure which could result in damage to magnets.
