DTC P0403: EGR Solenoid Circuit

NOTE:
Monitored with ignition on and engine running with battery voltage more than 10.4 volts. Set condition is when EGR solenoid control circuit is not in the expected state when requested to operate by PCM. Possible causes are: ASD relay output circuit open, EGR solenoid defective, intermittent wiring harness failure, EGR solenoid control circuit open, EGR solenoid control circuit short to ground or PCM defective.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP displayed is zero, go to next step. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP is not zero, go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect EGR solenoid connector. Inspect electrical connector and clean/repair as necessary. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, actuate EGR solenoid. Using a DVOM, check voltage at EGR solenoid connector ASD relay output circuit (Dark Green/Orange wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open ASD relay output circuit. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II .
- Turn ignition off. Using a DVOM, check resistance of EGR solenoid. If resistance is 25-75 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 25-75 ohms, replace EGR solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II .
- Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C1 (located nearest to front of vehicle). PCM is located to left of Power Distribution Center (PDC) in engine compartment. Inspect electrical connector and clean/repair as necessary. Using a DVOM, check resistance of EGR solenoid control circuit between EGR solenoid connector (Gray/Yellow wire) and PCM connector C1 terminal No. 40 (Gray/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open EGR solenoid control circuit. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II .
- Using a DVOM, check resistance between EGR solenoid connector solenoid control circuit (Gray/Yellow wire) and chassis ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair EGR solenoid control circuit short to ground. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II .
- If no other potential causes are remaining, PCM is assumed to be defective. Replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II .
- Using scan tool, actuate EGR solenoid. Using scan tool, read DTCs. Wiggle wiring harness between EGR solenoid and PCM. If DTC did not return, go to next step. If DTC returned, repair as necessary where wiggling caused problem to appear. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II .
- Turn ignition off. Inspect EGR solenoid electrical connector and wiring. Clean/repair as necessary. Inspect connector for corroded, damaged, pushed out or miswired terminals. If connector and wiring are okay, test is complete. If connector and wiring is not okay, repair or replace as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II .
