Anti-Theft Systems: Operation

BCM monitors driver's door on one circuit and all other doors on another circuit. Four door lock switches, one located at each door, are used for BCM DOOR OPEN input signal. Two arm/disarm switches are used in VTSS system. Arm/disarm switches are located in left and right front doors. These switches use internal resistors to send a signal to BCM when requested by the operator by selecting arm/disarm functions. A problem in any passenger compartment switch will not allow the system to arm.

BCM monitors trunk lock switch for a closed circuit. If the switch circuit opens (trunk is opened or switch is removed), BCM triggers the alarm. If there is a malfunction in trunk lock switch, the system will arm, but the switch will not be monitored. If the switch becomes functional while the system is armed, it will be used as an input to the BCM.

When system is triggered by unauthorized entry, horn will sound, interior lights and headlights will flash. After 3 minutes the horn will stop and interior lights and headlights will flash for an additional 15 minutes. Engine will not start until system is disarmed.
