Section 90 (Charging System - Generators & Regulators): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Eagle Vision, 1996 Dodge Intrepid, 1996 Chrysler New Yorker, 1996 Chrysler LHS, and 1996 Chrysler Concorde. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The generator consists of an internal fan and an internal electronic Integrated Circuit (IC) voltage regulator. Voltage regulator is part of the rotor, brush and brush holder assembly.

Alternating current produced is rectified to direct current through diodes. A charging system warning light is used to indicate charging system malfunction. If there is an interruption in the charging system warning light circuit, the generator relay or Automatic Shutdown (ASD) relay functions as a back-up for electrical flow from ignition switch. Warning light circuit energizes field coil of generator. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
