Axle Shafts - Front: Description

All FWD models use an unequal length axle shaft system. The unequal length system has a short solid axle shaft on the left side with a longer solid axle shaft on the right. See Fig 1 .

Axle shaft assemblies are 2 piece units. Each axle shaft has a tripod joint, and an outer CV joint assembly. The tripod joint is splined onto the axle shaft. The outer CV joint assembly consists of axle shaft, vibration damper, CV joint/boot and stub shaft. The outer CV joint stub shaft is splined into the front wheel hub and bearing assembly. See Fig 2 .

Inner boots are made of different materials. The left inner boot is made of high temperature application silicone. Right inner boot is made of Hytrel plastic.

CAUTION: Inner boots are not interchangeable. Ensure boots of the correct material are used on each side during replacement.
