Test 7A: Mode Door Input Shorted To Ground

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Dodge Intrepid and 1998 Chrysler Concorde. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Before proceeding with this test, perform TEST 1B: IDENTIFYING A/C-HEATER SYSTEM BCM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  . BCM will set a DTC 48 if an abnormally low voltage (less than 0.1 volt) is detected on its mode request input.
  1. Using scan tool, clear DTC. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS. Turn ignition off. Disconnect A/C-heater control head White 12-pin (C1) connector. Ensure connector terminals are clean, tight and not damaged. Repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition off. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and control head 12-pin connector terminal No. 10 (Red/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 100.0 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100.0 ohms or more, replace A/C-heater control head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST  .
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect BCM Black 24-pin (C2) connector. Ensure connector terminals are clean, tight and not damaged. Repair as necessary.
  4. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and control head 12-pin connector terminal No. 10 (Red/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 100.0 ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Tan wire. If resistance is 100.0 ohms or more, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST  .
