Test 18A: Repairing Blank Scan Tool Screen

NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM  .
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Inspect, clean and repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A  . If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and DLC ground circuits, terminals No. 4 (Black/Violet wire) and No. 5 (Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in ground circuit(s). Perform TEST VER-1A  . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Using an external voltmeter, check voltage between DLC ground circuits, terminals No. 4 (Black/Violet wire) and No. 5 (Black wire), and terminal No. 16 (Pink wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Pink wire. Perform TEST VER-1A  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  4. Try a different scan tool cable. Reconnect scan tool to DLC. If scan tool screen is no longer blank, replace defective scan tool cable. Perform TEST 1A  . If scan tool screen is still blank, replace defective scan tool.
